Written by Peter Rumney for 10-15 year olds, Beyond the Wall and Over the Sea explores the struggle of two children as they escape there war ridden town and explore what is hidden beyond the wall. I set the play in modern day Syria instead of in the 1940’s as I wanted to show that war is still happening now and the repercussions of this. Syria has gone from a very beautiful place to somewhere, which is broken very similarly to the world in which Meena and Franco escape from. They have suffered in war and lost their parents, and through friendship and discovery are able to escape and experience somewhere brighter which changes the world when they return to it.
